Rank is players over the last seven days. A big server showing offline while the rest are up is that server restarting or wiping, not Rust being down.
Every five minutes Rust Pop Watch reads the public server list and counts what is actually up. We put that against the count we normally see at this hour, and the verdict at the top of this page comes straight from the comparison: Rust servers are up.
How the verdict is decided
It is a ratio, not a hunch. We take the number of servers currently answering and divide it by the typical figure for this time of day. Near the usual level means a normal day; a clear fall below it counts as a drop; less than half the usual number is called an outage. The live totals sit above the headline: 11,857 servers and 95,257 players at the last read.
Checking one server rather than all of them
A single missing server is not an outage. Servers restart, wipe and go quiet without warning. If you joined from a favourite, look up its page on the full population list, where its last-seen time tells you whether it stopped answering minutes or hours ago. Wipes are the usual reason it goes briefly missing, and the wipe schedule lists upcoming ones by server.
When the page says up but your browser is empty
The gap is usually on your side or Steam's. Close and reopen Steam, since the in-game list is served by Steam and a stale login returns nothing. Then clear the region and tag filters in the server browser; an old filter hides every server quietly. After a force wipe, servers update one at a time, so update your game before refreshing. A VPN or a strict network can block the traffic the browser needs; try it off.
The charts behind the numbers
The 48-hour charts show the last two days of counts for every server we track. Use them to tell a real outage from a quiet patch: a flat, sudden drop across many servers at once points outside Rust, while a gradual slide on one server is normal population drift. The story is in the figures, so read them before you panic.
You asked, we answered
Are Rust servers down today?
Read the verdict above the charts. Rust Pop Watch compares the live server count with the figure this hour normally brings and calls it up, a drop or an outage. The verdict updates every five minutes, so a fresh reading is never more than a few minutes old.
Why can't I see any servers in Rust when this page says they are up?
The problem is normally Steam or your own filters rather than Rust. Restart Steam, then Rust, and clear the region and tag filters in the server browser. On a force wipe day, update the game before you try again, and check Steam's status if everything is still empty.
Does a quiet hour mean the servers are down?
No. Population rises and falls by the hour, and the verdict accounts for that by comparing against the usual count for the same time of day. A quiet but normal hour still reads as up. Only a sharp fall below the expected figure turns the verdict.
